What's Out There

Donate your time, talents and efforts through countless volunteer opportunities

Whether you want to bake cookies, make puppets, get messy with finger paints, take children to the zoo, tutor patients or help at a fundraising event, volunteering for RMHC makes a difference.

When Michelle volunteers for the arts program at the Ronald McDonald House of Houston, she not only brings the children crafts and fun activities, but she also brings her hopes for their own healthy futures.

Joan Kroc, philanthropist and wife of McDonald’s founder Ray Kroc, once wrote: “I want you to believe that a life of service is a happy one to lead. Serve others and your reward will be great; carry with you the message of charity and brotherly love.” The RMHC global force of volunteers — some 30,000 strong — can certainly speak to this.

Whether bringing a dog to visit a Ronald McDonald House in Guatemala, tutoring a sick child in Turkey or preparing meals for families in Wisconsin, volunteers serve as the backbone of RMHC and its local Chapters. During the past year, volunteers contributed nearly one million hours of their time to support RMHC programs.

Volunteer Opportunities

Many people look to their local RMHC Chapters to volunteer. At Ronald McDonald Houses and Ronald McDonald Family Rooms, volunteers prepare meals for families, host movie and pizza nights, provide crafts and games, clean and organize kitchen and play areas, and maintain gardens and landscaping. During holidays or special events, volunteers often help decorate, prepare meals and host parties.

As a volunteer, you can help RMHC by fundraising, event planning, serving families and serving on boards and committees.

Volunteer Requirements

Minimum age requirements and time commitments for each volunteer role varies among the programs, but every local RMHC Chapter welcomes volunteers to host a one-time family activity at a House or to commit to weekly volunteer assignments.

More Ways to Help

Your volunteer opportunities aren’t limited by a list. As a RMHC volunteer, you can use your talents to help others.

  • Quilters in Canada, Puerto Rico and America gather together to stitch quilts and baby blankets for families staying at local Ronald McDonald Houses.
  • A retired teacher in Japan tends the gardens of a House.
  • Teachers in Costa Rica, Taiwan and other countries devote time and resources to orphaned, abandoned and ill children.
  • Artists donate their talent to create murals and other art displays for Ronald McDonald Houses, Ronald McDonald Family Rooms and Ronald McDonald Care Mobiles.
  • Companies enlist teams of volunteers to clean Ronald McDonald Houses — complete with their own supplies of brooms, mops and paintbrushes.

Whether you want to bake cookies, make puppets, get messy with finger paints, take children to the zoo, tutor patients or help at a fundraising event, volunteering for RMHC makes a difference.

RMHC needs your help. If you’d like to volunteer, contact your local RMHC Chapter, and find out how you can help with its Ronald McDonald House or Ronald McDonald Family Room or Ronald McDonald Care Mobile programs.
